There are eight tarot cards, that are stored at $526, and a routine to start the tarot sequence is triggered when the timer reaches 0x25 (37) within the day/night cycle.

| Value | Description | Image |
| 0000 | Fortitude The Lion (invulnerability for a limited time) | |
| 0001 | Rebirth Death (extra life) – In tarot terminology, the Death card symbolises rebirth, so instead of losing a life, you are awarded an extra one. Lives are stored in $5C8 ![]() You cannot have more than 5 lives – 4 corner stars shown on the screen. If lives do not equal 4, then add 1 to lives. (Otherwise $48A increases by 3000) ![]() | |
| 0002 | Great Danger The Moon (guardians home in on you) | |
| 0003 | An Untimely End The Hanged Man (reduces the amount of time left) If the timer ($552) is less than 0x55 (#86), it adds #8 to the timer. ![]() | |
| 0004 | The Turning of Fate Wheel of Fortune (swaps the position of the indicator on the energy meter, so a very low power level becomes a very high one and vice-versa) This takes the energy value in $4B4 and subtracts it from 0x5F00 (the maximum value) to give a new energy value. ![]() | |
| 0005 | Goodliness The Sun (8-way autofire for a limited time) | |
| 0006 | Chaos and Disaster Tower of Destruction (rapid explosion evil growth) | |
| 0007 | Power The Star (increases firepower – up to two can be collected) If $4F0 = 8, then $4F0 =9 ![]() |
A small bonus is awarded for shooting the power crystals thrown out by the tarot cards, so if you’re not interested in the power on offer, shoot it instead.
The power crystal flies out diagonally from the centre of the tarot card until it settles somewhere on the screen. After a short while, a worm/maggot crawls across the screen from left to right to push the power crystal off the screen.
